Projects
ISTA is able to activate research initiatives in the following chain of agro-industrial areas:
- Production of food with improved organoleptic and nutritional characteristics.
- Development of innovative processes to obtain primary and secondary products.
In this context we may recall the participation, among others, on:
- MDF (2010/2013 - Coord. Parco Tecnologico Padano - cofin. Lombardy Region): continuing the activities of selecting lines with low content of mycotoxins already begun in the MAIZ project, the MDF program aims to introducing resistance to Fusarium verticillioides and in Diabrotica virgifera virgifera in maize inbred lines and hybrids through traditional breeding plan assisted by molecular markers.
- AGRO-GEN (2007/2009 - Coord. CRA - cofin. MIPAF) had as its objective the identification and study of genetic and molecular bases of the main agronomic characters of durum wheat and the application of this knowledge to a selection program assisted by molecular markers for the development of new varieties which have high quality and resistance to water stress and disease.
- MAIZ (2007/2009 - Coord. Mangimi Brianza S.p.A. - cofin. Lombardia Region) has had as its objective the creation of hybrid maize with high protein and essential amino acids content and low mycotoxins content.
Using its extensive network of partnerships, are ongoing, in the ISTA laboratories, further research and development initiatives on different themes, including the application of hybrid rice technology and the development of functional foods rich in beta glucans.
